McAnena steps down as Mediaedge:cia chief executive

LONDON - Fiona McAnena is stepping down as chief executive of WPP Group media agency Mediaedge:cia UK to take up the role of development director at WPP's insight and consultancy division Kantar.

Rob Norman, chief executive of Mediaedge:cia subsidiary Outrider, will become chairman of the agency. The agency had a disappointing year in 2002, the first full year of its existence, with clients including Wrigley's, Gap, and AG Barr reviewing their business out of the agency.

McAnena has led the UK operations of Mediaedge:cia since December 2001, when The Media Edge and CIA merged after WPP bought Tempus.

Kantar is the holding unit for WPP brands businesses including strategic marketing consultancy Added Value, Millward Brown and The Henley Centre. McAnena was UK and European CEO of Added Value before taking up her role at Mediaedge:cia. Revenues for Kantar in 2002 were around £800m.

"When you look at the line-up of companies in Kantar, it's clear it has huge potential to leverage its combined skills and knowledge to do great things for clients. It's a world-class team, which I am delighted to be joining," McAnena said.

She reports to CEO Eric Salama and is charged with extending Kantar's relationship with clients and selling the various Kantar brands. Joining her is Rosi Ware, who joins as vice-president of development. She was formerly president of Millward Brown in the US and the UK.
