The magazine, called Rio, will be free and distributed to an estimated database of more than 500,000 globally. The first issue will be available next month at RioFerdinand.com, supported by an e-mail opt-in service.
Rio will be edited by Made up Media co-founder and former GQ and NME journalist Iestyn George, while Rio Ferdinand will be editor-in-chief helping out with editorial decisions, according to the group.
Ferdinand said: I really like the idea of being able to create a digital magazine that brings everything to life, with great interviews and videos. We're looking forward to having a lot of fun putting it together."
The magazine claims it will represent a snapshot of the world that Rio inhabits and will be a reflection of his interests.
Content will include celebrity interviews along with editorial content on music, fashion, film and TV.
Brighton-based digital publishing company Made up Media was set up in 2007 and has launched the websites InGolfWeTrust.com and Catflap Magazine, as well as the rugby site ScrumoftheEarth.com.
