Manchester United to launch interactive gift card

LONDON - Manchester United will be selling interactive DVD gift cards through Sainsbury's from next Thursday to promote its official membership scheme, One United, in the run-up to Christmas.

The card has been produced by digital publishing and marketing company Serious, which claims it is the first interactive DVD gift card to be launched in the UK.

DVD cards have already made a large impact in the US. GiftCard Nexus has said they are one of the key reasons why gift card sales in the US are expected to hit $35bn this Christmas.

The technology is unique in that it allows businesses to add video and audio, web links, promotions and interactivity to their gift cards.

Steven Hall, general manager for ticketing and membership at Manchester United said the cards offer a range of benefits for fans.

Hall said: "The cards give fans instant credit to join the club's membership scheme, which means that they have access to home game tickets, can get their names on the season ticket waiting list, as well as other exclusive benefits like discounts, entry into competitions to win autographed merchandise and the special welcome member packs."

gift cards will be available to purchase from more than 300 Sainsbury's stores nationwide from November 8. The cards will be priced at £17 for junior membership and £28 for adult membership.
