The second phase of refurbishment for the Grade II-listed venue is now under way, with its smoked glass foyer set to be replaced by a flat-roofed, clear-glazed structure that will expose more of the original architecture.

Last November, work on Manchester Central's Central Hall was completed. It now features an extended foyer area and a new entranceway.

"The iconic entrance to Manchester Central has been one of the city's best-known ‘doorways' for business and leisure for more than 20 years," said Manchester Central chief executive Lesley Tomlinson.

"With the addition of the new central foyer we are giving the venue a 21st-century face-lift, and welcoming in an exciting new era as Manchester Central becomes bigger and better than ever."
