'Celebrity Love Island' averaged 4.7m or 22% between 9.30pm-10.30pm last night, the second-best performance of the series following its 5.3m strong opening night. 'Big Brother' averaged 3.7m or 20% between 10pm-10.50pm.
However, the ITV1 show is losing out in terms of the key youth audience. It averaged 29% for adults 16-34, peaking at 36%, compared with 'Big Brother', which averaged 35% for the 16-34 demographic.
The ITV1 show with its D-list celebrities has managed to hold viewers' interest who are finding the snogging celebs in the sun an alternative to the boys and girls Channel 4 has lined up this year in Hertfordshire.
There had been fears that ITV1's audience could disappear when it started to lose viewers after its strong opening. Early on, ratings slumped to 2m at one point, the lowest ratings for the show to date.
'Celebrity Love Island' has looked to spice things up a little by shipping in a former Playboy model Nikki Ziering, who has already been a big hit with former 'Hollyoaks' actor Paul Danan, who previously only had eyes for Lady Isabella Hervey.
Danan, who was sin-binned last week for drunken behaviour, has spent the last two weeks of chasing Isabella, declaring his fickle love for her. However, Ziering now has his attention and it looks to be mutual.
Talking to Calum Best, he said he was in love with the new arrival: "There's nothing I can do about this one. This is the one," Danan said.
Ziering seems to feel the same way. "Let's go to the Love Shack now," she told Paul.
