ITV releases comedy for mobile and internet

LONDON - ITV has created a thirtysomething comedy called 'The Gym', which has been tailor-made to be viewed on mobile phones and online at ITV.com.

'The Gym' will broadcast daily on ITV Mobile from Monday to Friday for 10 weeks, with each of the 50 "mobisodes" lasting two minutes.

Consumers need to text THEGYM to 83339, costing the price of two texts, to receive the content, which is free apart from network operator data charges.

'The Gym' will also be available to watch in free weekly instalments at itv.com.

The programme was made by Hub TV and features actors Rich Fulcher from 'The Mighty Boosh' and Ingrid Oliver from Channel 4's 'Plus One'.

The action is seen through the eyes of almost thirtysomething character Miriam, who attempts to put her life back together after an aborted wedding.

Characters include her steroid-packed personal trainer Gee, the gym manager Lorna, a former Miss Melbourne, and alternative therapist David Darblay, who has been living in his office since his wife threw him out.

Melissa Goodwin, head of ITV mobile, said: "'The Gym' is a brand new multiplatform comedy show that can be viewed anywhere and anytime."

There was no word from ITV as to whether the mobile content would be ad-supported.
