In a six-month trial that started in October last year, ITV Consumer has created a for the Hastings and Brighton area, offering local news, weather and other video content. It has attracted more than 10,000 users each week.
As of two weeks ago, the partnership with Scoot allows site users to access local business listings. Scoot will also sell local businesses classified ads, including 30-second video ads.
Among the businesses to have taken up the offer are Shirley Car Sales and Brighton Music.
Kevin Gooding, product development director for ITV Consumer, said: "With the Scoot sales team on board, we can offer a real, competitively priced alternative to the traditional local newspaper advertising medium. And the fact that ITV Local supports text, videos and images dramatically boosts the potential levels of consumer interactivity and interest."
Scoot is owned by Enable Media, the online directories publisher that owns the AskAlix brand and sources its business data from Dun & Bradstreet. Last October, Enable bought the Scoot customer base, as well as a long-term licence for the Scoot brand, from BT.
Tim Kirkman, a former director of Carat and Hachette Filipacchi, is joint managing director of Scoot.
He said: "Scoot's specialist sales team can now provide a fresh new approach to advertising and marketing solutions at a truly local level, offering a real alternative to the traditional media who can now no longer enjoy a monopoly in this significant and lucrative market."
