Enable buys Scoot customer base from BT in long-term deal

LONDON - Enable Media, the online directories publisher that owns the AskAlix brand, has bought the Scoot customer base and a long-term licence agreement for the Scoot brand from BT.

Enable Media, of which former Carat and Hachette Filipacchi director Tim Kirkman is joint managing director, will operate Scoot from its Stockton-on-Tees headquarters.

Scoot will be relaunched next month by Enable Media with an enhanced category and area search in a different format, which will aim to deliver improved search results through new technology.

According to Kirkman: "Scoot is a great brand, synonymous with the swift delivery of the right information. Advertising revenues for online media continue to show spectacular growth.

"The first half of 2005 experienced revenue growth of 64% compared with the first half of 2004; local search outperformed the sector, delivering revenue growth of 74%. Another excellent asset is our great team of people, all working to support a great brand in a positive and exciting market place."
