Airey, who will take up the post later this year, will be responsible for developing ITV's UK and international production, distribution and content exploitation business.
She will report to John Cresswell, ITV's chief operating officer.
Airey, formerly managing director of channels at BSKyB, last month left a job as chief executive of television production company Iostar after just eight days in the role. The start-up company folded soon after, as it became clear it had problems with funding.
She pledged to work with ITV's director of television Simon Shaps to "continue the reinvigoration" of the broadcaster.
