The Sunday Telegraph claims that BCG was first brought into the company by former managing director of global content Dawn Airey to help restructure her division, before her departure from ITV to join Five in April.
The findings from this exercise will be presented to staff in July and are expected to trigger job losses at the division, now headed by Lee Bartlett.
ITV has now asked BCG to look at the 500-strong sales and marketing division headed by Rupert Howell.
John Cresswell, chief operating officer at ITV, has told shareholders he wants to achieve cost savings above the £41m cuts already promised by the end of this year, and £40m saved by reducing regional news services.
BCG has recently been working at News International and last year carried out a project at Emap that resulted in a slew of redundancies.
