Iraq war drama earns BBC One top ratings spot with 4.4m

LONDON - BBC One's Iraq war drama series 'Occupation' began well last night with 4.4m viewers, ahead of 'CSI's 2.8m audience, according unofficial overnight figures.

'Occupation', which stars James Nesbitt, Stephen Graham and Warren Brown as British soldiers during and after 2003's invasion of Iraq, brought BBC One a 20% share of viewing at 9pm-10pm. The three-part series continues at the same time tonight and tomorrow.

The penultimate episode of 'CSI' delivered 2.8m viewers, giving Five second place in the ratings battle with a share of 12.6%.

BBC Two's 'Mary Queen of Charity Shops' and ITV1's 'Ladette to Lady' again tied, but their audiences dropped from last week's 3m each to 2.4m.

The girls' education show had the slight edge over the shop troubleshooting show with an 11% share to 10.8%.

'I'm Running Sainsbury's', Channel 4's documentary about staff at the supermarket pitching ideas to top management, scored 1.5m viewers for the second week in a row, though its share dipped from 7% to 6.8%.

It was followed at 10pm-11pm by 'Big Brother', which managed 2m viewers and an 11.8% share.

On Channel 4+1 'I'm Running Sainsbury's' was watched by 133,000 viewers and 'Big Brother' by 181,000.
