ITV1 comedy drama trails 'Traffic Cops' by 1.9m

LONDON - Despite new comedy fare on ITV1 and BBC Two, most viewers plumped for 'Traffic Cops' on BBC One last night, according to unofficial overnight figures.

ITV1 pulled in an underwhelming 2.9m for the first in a two-part adaption of John O'Farrell's novel 'May Contain Nuts', centring on the lengths middle class parents go to in order to get their children into the right school.

The commercial channel claimed a 13.6% share of viewing, some way behind the 22.3% soaked up by BBC One in the same 9pm-10pm slot. 'Traffic Cops' was the clear winner, pulling in 4.8m viewers.

US import 'The Mentalist' continues to boost Five's performance on Thursdays, this time amassing 2.4m viewers and putting the channel third, with an 11.2% share.

BBC Two's comic take on the sword and sorcery genre, 'Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire', launched with 1.8m viewers and an 8.3% share at 9pm-10pm.

The five-part series features Sean Maguire as the titular hero and Matt Lucus as his nemesis. It will revert to a half-hour format next week.

Although 2.4m tuned in during the first 15 minutes, it was clearly not to everyone's taste as 700,000 of them had tuned out by the second 15 minutes.

Finally in the 9pm-10pm slot Channel 4 aired shock doc 'Two Foot Tall Teen', managing an audience of 1.4m and a share of 6.7%. It was watched on Channel 4+1 by 226,000.

At 10pm 'Big Brother' pulled in 1.9m viewers, while the return of BBC Two sketch show 'That Mitchell and Webb Look' scored only 1.4m.
