Aitchison will be responsible for overseeing Ipsos' UK marketing specialisms including Observer, Insight, Novaction, Loyalty and Vantis as well as ASI.
The position was created to enable Ipsos UK chief executive Richard Silman to devote more time to his role as head of global media specialism to extend Ipsos' media offering potential.
As part of the restructure, Silman will retain responsibility for Ipsos UK's media, public affairs, logistics, marketing, finance and HR departments.
Aitchison joined Ipsos UK in 2002 when the company acquired Research in Focus, a strategic marketing research consultancy. Prior to helping build Research in Focus, she spent nine years with the Mars group.
Aitchison said: "By having all our marketing, advertising and loyalty teams under one management structure, we can really focus on our clients' requirements for complete solutions, while retaining specialist teams who are experts in their fields of market research practice."
In addition, former Synovate business development director James Mundell has been appointed as managing director of Ipsos ASI to replace Aitchison and to sit on the Ipsos UK board.
Mundell has previously worked with TNS, BrandVision, Millward Brown and BMRB International.
