The hunt begins for Diamond Jubilee Egg

The Faberg茅 Big Egg Hunt gets underway today (21 Feb), with more than 200 giant eggs hidden in secret locations throughout central London.

Organisers have revealed that the top prize is a Diamond Jubilee Egg worth more than £100,000. It’s crafted with 500 grams of rose gold and features 60 gemstones – one for each year of The Queen’s reign.

The eggs have been exclusively designed and decorated by some of the world’s leading artists, architects, jewellers and designers including Mulberry, Sir Ridley Scott, Zandra Rhodes, Diane Von Furstenberg, Marc Quinn and Bruce Oldfield.

Piggotts Creative Displays has manufactured tailored plinths for the 200 fibreglass eggs. The company installed the eggs at the secret locations across London, and will undertake any renovation if needed during the 40-day event

To enter, egg hunters need to locate the SMS keyword displayed on each of the eggs and text it to 80001. For each keyword, participants will be entered into a prize draw. The more eggs they find, the more chances they will have to win.

The event is in aid of charities Action for Children and Elephant Family.

Dame Clare Tickell, Action for Children’s chief executive, said: "The Fabergé Big Egg Hunt is an enchanting event, which will capture the hearts, imagination and interest of everyone taking part. It’s particularly heartening to know that money will be raised thanks to an event which will be hugely enjoyable for the thousands of children and families who will be taking part."

Sarah Fabergé, great granddaughter of Peter Carl Fabergé, added: "We are delighted to unveil the Diamond Jubilee prize. Today sees the streets of central London host the world’s most prestigious Easter egg hunt. We are thrilled to be involved in a fun-filled, public project exploring creativity across so many artistic disciplines, and raising funds for two exceptionally deserving charities."
