Harry Potter fever helps PlayStation deliver one million impacts

The new Harry Potter film helped a Sony PlayStation ad deliver one million impacts at the cinema last weekend, according to figures from Digital Cinema Media (DCM).

The colourful ad, created by TBWA, with media planned and bought by Manning Gottlieb OMD, features children being entertained by a range of PlayStation games such as 'EyePet', 'Little Big Planet 2' and 'TV Superstars'. It ends with the strapline: "This is your world. The game is just the start….".

The ad aims to highlight the range of games available on PlayStation Move – its recently launched motion controller for the PlayStation 3.

PlayStation also currently sponsors Odeon and Cineworld cinema Kids Clubs across the country, which offers discounted cinema tickets for families at the weekends.

Cineworld and Odeon will run the ad for the next two months, ahead of family-friendly films including ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1’ and the ‘Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader 3D’.

Jeremy Playle, sales director at DCM, said: "PlayStation is engaged in providing fun for all the family and so the sponsorship of the Kids Clubs is a perfect fit.

"The cinema is one of the places families socialise together and so this supports the PlayStation Den initiative, which aims to get families to socialise and play together."

‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1’ had been seen by 1.9 million people by its second weekend in UK cinemas last week, drawing in total box office sales of £33.3m.

The second most popular film last weekend was the newly released ‘Unstoppable’, starring Denzel Washington as a veteran engineer trying to stop an unmanned freight train travelling at high speed. The film delivered 329,783 impacts and rang up box office sales of £1,714,871.
