Gyro wins Sun Microsystems global below-the-line account

LONDON – Gyro International has retained and expanded its brief with Sun Microsystems, following a competitive pitch that originally involved 16 agencies.

The IT giant has appointed Gyro as its global agency for below-the-line activity, which will see the agency lead marketing programmes and for a selection of online demand generation activities for the integrated marketing and global e-marketing teams at Sun.

Gyro will work with Sun's marketing teams to plan and develop integrated campaigns and programmes such as new product launches and strategic programmes.

Gary Brine, CEO of Gyro International, said: "This is a massive vote of confidence in the Gyro network, the work that we have done for Sun in the past and our proposed strategy for the company in the future.

"It is obviously hugely satisfying for Gyro to retain this account against the quality of the agencies that we were pitching against and we are looking forward to working with Sun in the years ahead."

The win extends a relationship between the agency and the computer firm dating back 10 years. Sun said that Gyro demonstrated a truly integrated approach and distinctive creative brief.

Cyndi Kubich, senior director of integrated marketing at Sun Microsystems, said: "Over the last 10 years, Gyro has provided Sun with unparalleled service through its strong global account management structure. We have developed a strong relationship with the agency over the years and I am confident that they will continue to deliver over and above the brief."

Gyro is the second agency to be retained by Sun following a review this year. In June, Starcom Worldwide retained the £60m global media planning and buying account.
