Google takes local search to real world with Favorite Places stickers

LONDON - Google is taking its local search to the streets of the US by sending out 100,000 Google Favorite Place stickers, readable by mobile phones, to the business that have been most sought out on its search and mapping sites.

Each sticker is printed with a unique barcode that can be scanned using a mobile phone camera on hundreds of different handsets, including iPhones, BlackBerrys and Android-based phones using an appropriate app. Scanning the code will automatically bring up the businesses Place Page on the screen of the phone.

Writing on the Official Google Blog, product marketing managers Ryan Hayward and David Kim, said: "We plan to periodically send out new waves of window decals to qualifying businesses."
