Game of the Week: Demolition City 2

LONDON - It's Friday afternoon. It's been a long week. Now relax. It's time to kick back and enjoy Revolution's Game of the Week, as chosen by Revolution's gaming expert and Kerb managing director Jim McNiven.

We have just put out our latest viral game for Playstation to advertise the launch of Unchartered 2 (from the legendary Naughty Dog team). But i've sworn not to be overtly self promotional in this column so you'll have to google that if you want to play it.

Unchartered 2 is, as you might expect, the sequel to the highly-successful PS3 exclusive Unchartered which was released a couple of years back to great acclaim. Sequels are the logical next step when looking to cash in on a successful format and even in the world of Flash games we are not a stranger to the concept. As with films and boxed games, the quality of these Flash games can vary greatly.

Demolition City was a Flash game that came out a couple of years ago and required the user to blow up building structures by placing dynamite at strategic points on a structure. Might sound dull on paper but you probably shouldn't underestimate the satisfaction gleaned from placing explosives in buildings and then watching them explode. The game was a big hit and spread round the web like wildfire, so its no surprise that Demolition City 2 currently doing the rounds.

DC2 (as those lazy typers call it) is everything a sequel should be: more areas to blow up, more dynamite too, and a (sort of) story. It's possibly too ambitious and seems to have lost that crucial simplicity aspect that's so important to increase the longevity of viral games. But it's definitely worth a play.
