Freeserve named UK's number one news provider

LONDON - Freeserve's message of peace, love and cheap internet access is paying off as the portal is named as the most popular online news service in the UK, according to new research.

Freeserve has grabbed 42.56% of the total number of visits made to news-related sites last week, beating MSN UK which received 38.54%.

The fact that Freeserve and MSN are both internet providers as well as news services obviously helped them to the top.

They shared over 80% of the total visits made to sites in the news and media category. BBCi came third with 7.13%.

Guardian Unlimited, which claims to be "the UK's most popular newspaper website" had only a 0.89% share of last week's visits. However, the Financial Times seems to have disproved them by taking three times as many visits, 2.67% putting it in fourth place.

GenieMobile, provider of free PC to phone text messaging and other mobile communications services attracted 2.66%, making it the fifth most popular site in the category.
