London Technology Week, which was organised by UBM Live, took place last week (16-20 June). The team behind the capital’s first large-scale tech event said it has been hailed as a huge success by leading technology entrepreneurs. The guest list was international, with attendees flying in from the USA, Canada, Mexico, China, Hong Kong and South Africa.
Numerous brands took advantage of the global platform to announce new business ventures. Educational technology companies Code Club and Technology Will Save Us announced a partnership sponsored by Google, which will encourage children to learn how to code.
The Science 50 Index of the fastest-growing UK science-based companies was also launched at the SVC2UK and Royal Society Science CEO Summit, and Tech City UK announced a £1m competition for start-ups and SMEs working on the Internet of Things.
Boris Johnson, Mayor of London, said: "London Technology Week has exceeded all expectations and provided us with the opportunity to fly the flag for a tech sector that is rapidly becoming a world leader and providing billions of pounds of investment and thousands of new jobs in our great city.
"We want to see the sector continue to thrive and the hundreds of events that took place this week have helped London position itself as a true leader of the global tech scene."
Julia Hartz, president and co-founder of event tech platform Eventbrite, added: "We came to London back in 2011 because of the wealth of live experiences happening in this city as well as the vibrant tech scene and amazing talent. Those elements are as important as ever and being part of London Technology Week has really emphasised that London has all of those things in abundance."
