The news was announced at the Hi-tech Tea event at the IMEX conference in Frankfurt this week. London & Partners, a partner of LTW alongside Excel London and Tech London Advocates, also discussed how event planners should harness this growing tech scene for their own benefit.

Barbara Jamison, head of business development Europe for London & Partners, said at the seminar: "London’s technology credentials are unrivalled right now in Europe. Tech City now spans the entire capital and with that comes ready access to some of the world’s most inspirational tech speakers, the opportunity to embed cutting-edge technology into your events, as well as a vital pool of potential sponsors on the doorstep.

"London Technology Week is a fantastic new event in our annual calendar and we hope that event planners around the world will be excited by the potential of London and inspired to bring their events to our city."

Tey Mossadeghi, from tech business Blitz Communications, added: "Event communications technology is evolving at a considerable pace.

"That combined with significant investment from London's event community in technology and infrastructure means we are approaching a time where all these complimentary technologies will be truly integrated, making the city the leading destination of the information age."

The technology event is the first of its kind to take place in London. Organisers said the high attendance expectations may be due to the latest findings of the Cities of Opportunity Index, which listed London as the world leader in economic influence, technology access, reputation as an urban gateway, and its development and design capabilities, ahead of New York, San Francisco and Singapore.

Boris Johnson, Mayor of London, said: "There is nowhere to rival London – we have the talent, the investors, and the entrepreneurial spirit. I want London's world-class tech sector to be as well known around the globe as our tourism, arts and financial services - it certainly deserves to be."
