Ferrero Rocher turns to soap star <BR>for new ad campaign

LONDON - Ferrero Rocher has turned to an Emmerdale soap star for its new TV commercial, which breaks as part of its £3m Christmas marketing drive that sees the brand use posters for the first time.

Continuing its "grudgingly given" theme, the campaign was created by Banks Hoggins O'Shea FCB and breaks this week. The TV work, featuring Emmerdale actress Anna Breacon, runs alongside three poster executions.

The commercial opens at a relaxed, thirty-something dinner party as the hostess goes out into the kitchen for the box of chocolates. She is encountered by her double, who appears to be her selfish alter-ego. A battle ensues between the selfish and generous sides until the good hostess wins and takes the chocolates to share with her friends at the table.

The three posters are entitled "bolt", "mousetrap" and "tablecloth". The "bolt" ad depicts a Ferrero Rocher chocolate bolted down to the table to prevent guests from taking it. The strapline is "Give Ferrero Rocher grudgingly".

The chocolate brand, which became famous for its long-running ambassador's reception ads, has continued with the more modern theme, which was introduced two years ago in order to attract younger consumers.

Ferrero Rocher was launched in the UK in 1983 and has become one of the top-selling boxed chocolate brands with a 7.5% share of the market. Since 1995, the company has spent £16m on advertising.
