The Italian chocolate company, Ferrero, has abandoned its famous,
long-running ’ambassador’s reception’ commercials in favour of a more
family-oriented theme, but it has retained the well-known theme
tune.
The new commercial, which was created in-house, shows a family
celebrating Christmas at home and building a giant Ferrero Rocher
pyramid. The family scenes are shot in soft focus and intercut with
shots showing how the sweets are made up of layers of chocolate and
nuts. At the end of the ad, a voiceover invites us to ’enter into the
Christmas spirit by sharing the pleasures of Ferrero Rocher’.
The ’ambassador’s reception’ ad had achieved cult standing in the UK
over the past few years. The theme tune was picked up by the Manchester
club scene and a jungle version of it was released last year.
Last Christmas, the company introduced a box of Ferrero Rocher
chocolates stacked in the pyramid formation used in the ad.
The ’ambassador’s reception’ has been running for several years, but had
a lavish makeover two years ago. Ferrero added new scenes to the
original ad, including an opening shot of the ambassador’s chateau-style
residence and new guests, including an Indian prince.
Ferrero UK’s other brands are Kinder chocolate and Kinder Surprise, Mon
Cheri, Nutella and Tic Tac. The Ferrero Rocher brand spends about pounds
3 million a year in the UK and is handled by Initiative Media.
