I got into the event industry because in my previous work as an IT manager at a major events company I saw the potential for quality internet connectivity and network infrastructure within live events. I realised that everything was moving towards the cloud and wanted to ensure experiential and live events were not compromised due to poor connectivity.

I have worked here since we formed Sevens7 Event Intelligence in 2012. Before that I was managing director at Noba Event intelligence from 2006.

I was attracted to this particular role because after being a supplier to Sevens7 for many years, the opportunity arose to join forces and create Sevens7 Event Intelligence. This has allowed us to rapidly expand both our business operations and service offerings. Working with like-minded individuals with a real passion for the industry is a plus too.

Not many people know that I used to be a celebrity dolphin trainer.

My worst experience at an event at an event where it rained for four days straight and we had to carry all the equipment by hand - including 200 kilos of weights for the satellite systems - over two miles of muddy fields due to vehicle movement being completely impossible. I still get numb fingers on cold days.

If there’s one thing I’ve learnt it’s never say ‘what could possibly go wrong?’

The best event I’ve been involved in was the BMW Sauber Formula 1 experience, touring with a young, unknown test driver Sebastian Vettel.

If I could do it all over again I would stick with the dolphins.

The one thing I can’t stand is people who don’t manage clients’ expectations, it’s very easy to say yes.

Outside of work I spend my time trail running, mountain biking and searching for the perfect single track.

If money were no object I’d like to put an internet connection on the moon. It would be great to be the first ISP in space.

The one thing I can’t do my job without is a 13 mm spanner.

If I could switch places with anyone else in the industry it would be anybody who doesn’t have to rig or de-rig!

If I ruled the event industry I’d ensure that the industry realised that event IT was as important as sound, lighting and not just an after-thought.
