Commuting Londoners were given a shock last Thursday (4 December) by Pepsi Max, which enlisted agencies Grand Visual and AMV BBDO to create a cinematic futuristic stunt.

The underground tunnels of London Bridge appeared to be transformed into a portal through time, with projections of prehistoric dinosaurs and futuristic cyborgs springing to life. The reactions of passers-by were filmed on hidden cameras and uploaded to YouTube.

Grand Visual used the latest in augmented reality and stereo projection technology to create the stunt. A fine gauze partition was stretched inside the tunnel, which allowed the animations to appear to spring to life from nowhere.

The stunt, which was initially devised by AMV BBDO, forms part of Pepsi Max’s Unbelievable campaign, a series of surprising feats and experiences designed to surprise members of the public and form viral video content for the drinks brand. Previous stunts have included an urban ‘street symphony’ and a at Halloween.
