Four years in the making, Battle for the Winds is a collaboration between Cirque Bijou and Desperate Men, involving 4,000 artists based across the south-west of England.
The fictional story follows seven teams of wind gatherers from each region of the south-west on their quests to bring the winds to Weymouth and Portland to help the Olympic sailors.
The cast included Royal Marines based on board HMS Bulwark, who delivered Doldrum the God of Stone onto the beach, and Breathe, a company of 64 disabled and non-disabled performers.
The show also featured aerial performers and culminated in 2,012 torchbearers wading into the sea. Julian Bracey, co-founder of Cirque Bijou said it was the part of the show people said couldn’t be done. "We signed them up after a lot of organisation and planning, and the end result will be spectacular," he said.
