The four-week ‘Stop Smoking, Start Living' roadshow will feature health tests and give advice at community meeting places, including shopping centres and markets.

A branded mobile information unit, designed and supplied by EMS will be staffed by health promotion specialists.

The lung age, blood pressure and Body Mass Index (BMI) tests are designed to make participants consider their health and the effects of smoking, capitalising on the New Year's resolution trend.

"By going out to where people are, rather than waiting for them to come to us, we hope to reach into new sections of the community and to support more people in giving up smoking," said Barking and Dagenham Community Health Services Stop Smoking service manager Nicola Hill.

EMS' 2009 campaign for neighbouring Newham Primary Care Trust reached 6,339 people in three months.

The ‘Stop Smoking, Start Living' roadshow started on 6 January and concludes on 31 January. The unit will visit five venues on the same day each week, including Morrison's, Tesco and Asda supermarkets and Dagenham Market.
