The station will reflect the magazine's content, broadcasting celebrity and pop industry gossip and pop music to a potential audience of 20m in London, the north of England and central Scotland.
The station will be promoted as "Smash Hits DAB Digital Radio -- non-stop hits 24/7" and will be broadcast from Emap Performance's offices on London's Oxford Street.
Andy Roberts, Emap Radio group programme director, said: "Smash Hits Radio will be driven by its listeners, reflecting their tastes and it will be clutter-free, pure non-stop pop. The sound will be energetic, brash, young and tongue-in-cheek, but it will still be authoritative and influential."
Emap Radio broadcasts dance music station Kiss FM and easy-listening station Magic. Its Smash Hits brand, originally just a magazine, has already been extended through Smash Hits TV, Smash Hits.net, The Smash Hits Poll Winners Party, and Smash Hits CDs.
From Monday, the station will be in its soft-launch phase. However, a spokeswoman for Emap said the company will begin promoting the brand across its own platforms in September.
