The pop magazine Smash Hits is expanding out of the magazine sector with plans to launch branded television and radio programmes from 23 September.
The Smash Hits radio show will fill a two-hour slot on Sunday afternoons on publisher Emap's broadcast arm, the Performance Network, which includes the Big City, Magic and Kiss 100 radio station brands.
The radio show, which is to be hosted by Key 103's Manchester-based Darren Procto, will initially be broadcast throughout the Big City network before going out to regional Big City stations every weekday evening between 7pm and 10pm.
Exclusive interviews with Robbie Williams and Britney Spears have been lined up for the launch show on 24 September.
A three-hour television show kicks off on 23 September on The Box channel, under the strapline: 'Smash Hits you control.'
Another hour-long programme will air on Sky One on 23 September, before taking a regular Sunday afternoon slot from 1 October.
The launches will be accompanied by a new look for the magazine, which has been redesigned to highlight the brand's multimedia status.
Tim Schoonmaker, Emap Performance's chief executive, said: 'Pop people now demand that their media choices are three dimensional. So we will turn Smash Hits into a superbrand that they can see, hear and interact with.'
