Emap Performance is extending teen mag Smash Hits into radio as it tries to position the title as a 'mega media brand'.

Emap will launch the Smash Hits radio show as a two-hour programme on its Big City Network from September 24, followed by local broadcasts on weekday evenings between 7pm and 10pm.

The work follows a deal between BSkyB and Emap which saw the title developed into an hour-long TV show, Smash Hits TV, to be broadcast every Sunday afternoon on Sky One from October 1.

Emap is now adding to its TV presence with a three-hour masthead programme of the show, to go out every week-day evening on Emap-owned music TV channel The Box.

Emap has also announced plans to develop TV channels based on music mag Q and dance radio station Kiss FM.

Emap Performance chief executive Tim Schoonmaker said: 'We will turn Smash Hits into a superbrand people can see, hear and interact with.'
