He will take up his new role in December and will report to chief operating officer Simon Wear.

He replaces Danny Ward-Lee, who died earlier this year aged just 38.

During his tenure at Bauer Media, Edwards was responsible for leading the advertising teams, selling online and mobile advertising across the company's consumer brands.

At Future, he will be responsible for the commercial operations of its digital arm.

Edwards began his career at Capital Radio, joining as a graduate trainee in 1995, before moving in 2003 to Emap, prior to its radio and consumer division being acquired by Bauer Media, and took on the role of business development director.

He then moved to Emap radio, becoming commercial advertising director of Kiss Radio before being appointed head of digital sales in 2006.

Last year, Niall Ferguson, deputy managing director of men's brands at Bauer, left to take up a senior publishing role at Future.
