Docherty recently departed Telewest Communications, where he was managing director of broadband. He was responsible for the development of a range of broadband content and services, particularly focused on health, games and entertainment.
Docherty worked with YooMedia while working at Telewest. The firm recently launched its the interactive TV channel, yoome2, on Telewest broadband. This new community channel allows viewers to play exclusive games, including Tetris, chat, and download ringtones and logos. YooMedia also provides chat to Sky One, Gamestar and Sky News channels.
While taking on the YooMedia directorship, Docherty continues as chairman of the NHS-funded project Living Health; and director at Network Games, a project with Sony; and new ventures including Vis-ITV and Start!Games that exploit breakthrough technologies.
Prior to Telewest, which he joined in June 2000, Docherty was deputy director of television, director of new media and a member of the board of management at the BBC.

While at the BBC, Docherty was highly involved as the corporation expanded into digital media and was the director responsible for the development of the BBC and Flextech joint venture UK channels such as UK Gold, UK Style, UK Horizons, UK Play and UK Drama.
