BBC deputy switches over to Telewest

Telewest Communications has hired senior BBC director David Docherty as managing director of broadband content.

LONDON (Brand Republic) 鈥 Telewest Communications has hired senior BBC director David Docherty as managing director of broadband content.

Docherty, who was with the BBC for 10 years, was the Corporation鈥檚 deputy director of television and director of new services.

He will take up the newly created post at Telewest on August 1. He said, 鈥淚鈥檝e been a pioneer in digital and I want to be a pioneer in broadband, which is the medium of the future.鈥

Telewest is one of the UK鈥檚 leading broadband cable communications operators, providing pay TV, telephony and internet services.

It recently merged with Flextech, a supplier of entertainment content and interactive services.

Docherty said, 鈥淭he Telewest/Flextech merger has created a completely new media player in Britain and the opportunity to play a part in its growth was too good to miss.鈥
