As UK ambassador, Howard will work to raise the profile of the scheme and coordinate the judges across the UK; he is also the contact for campaign submissions. The awards are due to be held in Chicago in October.
The awards have honoured direct-response advertising campaigns since 1930. Each year, approximately 1,000 direct response companies and agencies from all over the world enter the competition.
Howard said: "I'm really chuffed to be asked to raise the profile of the Echoes in the UK. They're a fantastic showcase for global creativity. British agencies have always performed well too. We got two of the four special awards this year, as well as a suitcase of Golds, and I'm quietly confident of seeing a UK clean sweep in 2007."
Winners in the various segments receive gold, silver or bronze Echoes and the 'Best of Show' is presented with the Diamond Echo. The USPS Gold Mailbox is also presented to the year's most innovative and effective mail campaign.
