Dennis sells gaming magazines to Future for £2.5m

LONDON – Future Network has bought Dennis Publishing's PC Zone, Computer & Video Games and the latter's website in a deal worth £2.5m.

PC Zone sells 41,073 copies a month on average, according to the Audit Bureau of Circulations. In acquiring the title, Future also picks up a significant piece of computer publishing heritage -- the 11-year-old PC Zone is the longest-running PC games magazine in the UK.

PC Zone and computerandvideogames.com will join a stable of magazines that includes larger competitor PC Gamer. However, the future of Computer & Video Games is less certain.

Future said Computer & Video Games, which has lost 40% of its circulation over the past year and a has monthly sales figure of 19,162 copies, is to be suspended in its current form.

Greg Ingham, the chief executive of Future, said: "This acquisition is a useful addition to our portfolio of titles in the games area and the well respected computerandvideogames.com website adds to our existing online presence."

Future added that turnover for the products during 2003 amounted to £4m, with an estimated profit of £500,000.
