Daily Star is the only national newspaper to increase circulation

LONDON - The Daily Star is the only daily national newspaper to increase its circulation year on year for the period between April and September.

According to ABC figures the tabloid increased circulation 17.5% to a daily average of 863,805.

Its Sunday title, The Sunday Star also managed to up circulation by 1.5% to an average of  386,266 for the period. The only other Sunday title to show a slight increase was the Sunday Times, also up 1.5% to a figure of 1.2m.

The biggest fall in circulation saw by a national daily newspaper for the period was 16.5% for The Independent. This takes its average daily circulation to 194,947.

The Independent on Sunday is also struggling with a 19.9% drop in circulation for the eriod, giving it an average circulation of 161,719.
