Cricket365 teams with Walkabout for World Cup promo

LONDON - Rivals Digital Media, the digital publisher behind the Cricket365 site, has signed an offline partnership with Australian pub chain Walkabout to push its coverage of the Cricket World Cup 2003.

Walkabout has produced a co-branded Walkabout and Cricket365 World Cup Cricket Fixture List fold-up glossy flyer, which is being distributed to consumers in all of its 39 bars located around the UK where Walkabout will be screening most of the games. Around 48,000 copies of the flyer have been produced, detailing dates of each of the World Cup games and their GMT TV timing schedules.

In return, Cricket365.com is running an online push for Walkabout's live TV coverage of the World Cup games. For the duration of the World Cup tournament, Walkabout will receive a continuous presence on the Cricket365 site in the form of a highlighted advertorial text box.

According to Elizabeth Ryan, marketing manager for RDM: "The Walkabout chain of bars is renowned for its fun attitude and strong affinity with various sports across the board, and this fits perfectly with RDM's portfolio of leading sports sites and their typically irreverent tone."

The advertising creative endorses Walkabout as the place to watch the World Cup games because it is "the best for big screen sports" and will link directly through to Walkabout's homepage where there is a venue finder for each of Walkabout's bars. Each bar details which sports fixtures it is showing that week so that users can find their nearest bar to watch the games.

Emma Withers, assistant brand manager for Walkabout, said: "Cricket365 is the first online stop for cricket fans, and we are delighted to be able to link up with them for the World Cup. Walkabout places huge emphasis on being the best place to watch sports action, and this is a great way for us to reach more sports fans, increasing our online presence and bringing more people into our bars."
