Business Visits & Events Partnership (BVEP) chairman Michael Hirst met with Minister for Tourism John Penrose on Monday on behalf of the meetings and event industry, and was pleased with the outcome.
In the 40-minute meeting, Hirst and Penrose discussed how dwindling government resources would affect the event industry, policies that affect the sector and the value of the meetings and event industry.
"We also discussed the role of local authorities and the need to get the message over to them in terms of the role events can play in place making," said Hirst.
"The minister agreed that bilateral meetings should continue to take place with his officials and the BVEP on a regular basis, and on the assumption that there were meaningful outcomes to be achieved."
One such meaningful outcome could be the increased involvement of further government departments in discussions with the event industry, specifically overseas missions.
