The BSc (Hons) event and festival sustainability management degree will commence this September at the education establishment in High Wycombe. It will feature both academic and practical elements, and students will be required to complete the course full-time over three years.
Details of the course have been published on the university’s website, and revealed that students will have the opportunity to work on live projects such as A Greener Festival, Roskilde Denmark, Notting Hill Carnival and Glastonbury.
The website also stated: "This programme has been developed through extensive consultation with industry professionals, focusing on trends shaping the event and festival industry today, with particular emphasis on sustainability."
Teresa Moore, head of department, music and events management at Buckinghamshire New University, said: "There has never been a more important time to introduce event and festival sustainability management into academic study and professional training. With climate change uppermost on everyone’s mind after a winter of extreme weather, the industry needs graduates who can help festivals in their efforts to become more environmentally sustainable.
"With the growing focus of finding greener approaches to every aspect of festivals and live events, this course is key to developing advancements at home and throughout the world."
