BT readies branded entertainment site

LONDON - BT has tied with PodShow to launch a branded entertainment portal offering users access to a range of exclusive audio, video, podcast and music content.

BT readies branded entertainment site

The btpodshow.com website is the telecoms company's latest attempt to establish itself as an entertainment brand, offering fixed-line telecoms, broadband internet access and TV services.

The portal offers users access to a variety of content-led video channels and online TV shows, which they can download to their PC, iPod and mobile phone. The service also allows consumers to upload user-generated content onto the site.

The initiative represents the first time BT has offered a YouTube-style video-sharing service. It is being positioned as a bridge between social networking sites and mainstream media platforms.

'As the web gets increasingly crowded with average content, audiences are looking for ways to find great entertainment, manage their media, and join in with what's happening,' said the site's co-founder, Adam Clark Curry.

Since the launch of BT Vision in 2006, the telecoms company has made a concerted effort to establish itself in the entertainment sector. It has signed deals with music companies Sony BMG, EMI and Universal and film studios including Paramount and DreamWorks through the service.

Last month, BT signed a deal with NBC Universal to offer a selection of its movies for £5 a month. It also plans to return to the mobile market with the launch of a BlackBerry-style smart-phone as part of its broadband deal.
