The BBC's ground-breaking serial production of Charles Dicken's 'Bleak House' has garnered 10 nominations, including for lead actor Charles Dance, for outstanding mini-series, writing, directing, art directing, casting, costumes and editing.
Richard Curtis' G8 summit-themed film 'The Girl in the Café', also for the BBC, gets seven nominations. The drama starred Bill Nighy and Kelly Macdonald.
Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant won nominations for BBC Two sitcom 'Extras', which is up for four awards.
The BBC and HBO co-production of 'Rome' recieved eight nominations and 'Children of Beslan' by the same stations has one.
Among US nominations, US thriller '24' starring Kiefer Sutherland 'is among the top candidates with 12 nominations, while sitcom 'Will and Grace' is up for 10 awards.
This year, 'Lost' and 'Desperate Housewives' fail to cut it in the best series categories.
There is also nothing for 'House' starring Hugh Laurie, despite winning a Golden Globe earlier in the year.
The nominations were announced in Los Angeles last night and there are 90 categories in all. The awards take place on August 27 and will be presented by chat show host Conan O'Brien.
