The store, which is being trialled, will focus entirely on pharmaceutical and healthcare products and will use a different layout to existing Boots outlets.
Beauty products will be excluded from the offer and the pharmacy will be central to the design, with areas for customers awaiting prescriptions as well as consultation rooms.
The health halls will also stock Boots' entire healthcare range, which is currently available only in its biggest branches. This will include "independent living aids" for the elderly and infirm, as well as vitamins and fitness products.
The latest trial of a store layout is taking place in Plymouth, but other formats have been tested in Bedford and Peterborough. A Boots spokesman confirmed the trial, saying it was looking at ways of presenting its healthcare offer.
Despite building its brand proposition around a health and beauty offering, Boots has recently taken a number of steps to boost its healthcare credentials. Foremost among these has been its decision to retrain its pharmacists to provide limited NHS services for a number of long-term medical conditions.
