Birch and Ramsay take top new-media sales posts at ITV

LONDON - In a surprise move Peter Birch and Colin Ramsay have knocked out Andrea Lippet and John Doyle in the race for the respective roles of head of interactive sales and head of online sales at the newly merged ITV.

Under a restructure headed by the new sales director Gary Digby, Ramsay beat his boss John Doyle, director of online and interactive sales at Granada Enterprises, to the post.

Birch, previously commercial director at Carlton Active, beat Granada's controller of interactive sales Lippet to the head of interactive job. Lippet also reported in to Doyle.

Birch and Ramsay will now work with Digby to decide on the structures of their respective departments. They take up their positions with immediate effect.

Digby said of the restructure: "I am delighted to announce these two roles reporting directly to me. Both are significant growth areas in ITV Sales' portfolio of business."

The appointment of Andy Thompson to the position of ITV's senior sponsorship and branded content manager was also announced late last night. He was previously head of sponsorship at Carlton.

Digby, number two to ITV sales managing director Graham Duff, beat his Carlton Sales boss Steve Platt and Granada Enterprises managing director Simon Pardon to be the first sales director at the newly merged ITV1 in December. He is in charge of regional and national sales for ITV, ITV2, the ITV News channel, interactive and online.
