Shock as Carlton number two nets top ITV sales job

ITV has taken the advertising community by surprise with the appointment of Gary Digby, the number two at Carlton Sales, to the key position of director of ITV Sales.

There will be no room in the merged ITV sales operation for Steve Platt and Simon Pardon, the respective managing directors of former sales houses Carlton Sales and Granada Enterprises.

Digby was Carlton Media's director of sales, and reported to Platt, who had been widely tipped to take the director of sales role for the merged team.

ITV Sales managing director Graham Duff, formerly chief executive of Granada Enterprises, left the announcement of his sales team until the day ITV could officially begin trading as a merged entity.

Three of the four other management positions are taken by Granada Enterprises executives. Simon Lent becomes London sales leader, Jill Kerslake is director of sales operations and Andy Bagnall is director of knowledge management. Carlton Screen Advertising's Debbie Chalet becomes director of cinema.
