Big Brother site traffic rockets as show gets under way

LONDON - Big Brother's website is the most visited television website in the UK, echoing the success of the fourth series of the television gameshow, which debuted on Friday night attracting around 8m viewers.

The site received 13% of all traffic to the television category and forced visits to the category as a whole up by 24%. As well as being the UK's top TV website, it was the 34th most visited site in the country.

Series sponsor referred 1.3% of the traffic to the site, 19.5% came from the , while , which is hosting online coverage, received 17.65% of traffic leaving the website, according to online intelligence service Hitwise.

Channel 4 began charging to view online coverage, after millions of the show's fans tuned in to watch live coverage of key events such as the expose of Nasty Nick's double-handed dealings in the first series back in 2000.

The site also features message boards, polls and extra information on housemates including Anouska, Federico and Nush, who all entered the house on Friday night. The 12 contestants are competing for a £70,000 prize, tabloid notoriety and, according to some reports, a £50,000 bounty offered by The Sun for the first boy-girl couple to have sex in the house.
