It is the first time in the history of 'Big Brother' that security has had to enter the house to restore calm, as viewing figures last night continued to climb, hitting a peak of 6.9m and averaging at 6.4m up from the previous night's 6m.
Victor and Jason had both been very unhappy at the return last night of the pair dubbed the "bedsit babes", Michelle and Emma. The two were returned to the main house during a fancy-dress party, an event that was shown live on Channel 4 last night.
In a statement, Channel 4 said: "Tempers frayed and an altercation took place in the house in the early hours of this morning. Producers monitored the situation closely, separating the opposing groups and when they believed the situation had become very heated security guards were sent in to calm things down.
"Producers were satisfied that the situation was calm when the housemates eventually went to bed. This morning each housemate will be spoken to individually to make sure they are well and to see how they are feeling today."
Michelle and Emma have not made it widely known that they were able to watch the antics of the housemates while they have been away from the house. However, they have let their allies, Marco, Stuart and Nadia, know what they have seen, and have in particular warned them about Victor and Jason.
The 'Big Brother' website reports that Victor and Jason have been talking about how unhappy they were that Michelle and Emma are back. There were further tensions in the house after three contestants, Nadia, Emma and Marco, had another food fight.
Things started to kick off when camp law student Marco had been dancing in a fashion that musclebound Scot Jason found irritating. Already irritated by the food fight, he began shouting at Marco, who retaliated by saying "How dare you intimidate me".
Separately, Emma and Victor ended up being separated after a playful foodfight descended into a heated argument, with tray throwing and reports that Victor threw wine at Emma, who had to be dragged off while shouting "I'll fucking kill you".
According to reports, Victor was then called to the diary room and soon after, live streaming on Channel 4's digital station E4 was pulled from the air, returning at 3am.
Emma ended up back in the bedsit she has left only hours earlier.
Since then, the housemates have been discussing what will happen now. South African Vanessa remains the favourite to be evicted this Friday.
