Last night's nomination show attracted an average of 5.7m as viewers learnt that bedsit dwellers Michelle and Emma are set to make a return to the house tonight, following their fake eviction.
Odds on Vanessa going have shortened to 2/7 from 1/3. In contrast, Ladbrokes says there has been little money on Dan and his odds of going have drifted out to 5/2 from 9/4.
Ladbrokes spokesman Warren Lush said: "Money suggests this is not a
contest -- punters think Vanessa is certain to go. If the one-way traffic for her continues we may have to close the book early otherwise we would be just giving money away."
He added: "Emma and Marco are the most popular housemates at the moment. Emma is 5/1 from 6/1, while Marco is 7/1 from 10/1. Thousands have been staked on them to win in the last 24 hours suggesting that the pair are now serious contenders."
The latest viewing figures are good news for Channel 4, which has seen ratings steadily climb. Despite public apathy to the voting procedure, the show has enjoyed an 4.4m audience average, but if numbers like last night continue to be hit, this number will quickly rise.
Figures for the weekend show that Friday's mock eviction programme at 10pm achieved a 5.9m average, Saturday's show attracted 2.5m viewers and on Sunday an average of 3.9m tuned in.
In a surprise vote, Vanessa was named yesterday alongside gay hairdresser Daniel as a possible evictee. It had been widely predicted that plate-smasher Ahmed would be the one to be kicked out, but he seems to have become so anonymous that he has been passed over.
Ladbrokes places Vanessa as the 1/3 odds-on favourite to go, with Daniel at 9/4. With previous votes always tipping towards evicting women, the South African beauty's fate seems sealed. Daniel remains the second favourite to win at 4/1 behind Shell.
Michelle and Emma will return to the house live in an extended one-hour special tonight following five nights together in the Big Brother bedsit, to the shock of some of their housemates. The two have been going slowly stir crazy and yesterday painted their breasts with icing in an effort to relieve the boredom. The two have also been speaking to Big Brother psychologists.
While some housemates suspect that they may becoming back, they have no idea that the pair will be exempt from this week's eviction.
The move back into the house is expected to cause a stir between the entertaining pair and those housemates who have slated them over the past few days, including Jason and Victor. Since Friday, Michelle and Emma have played practical jokes on housemates, including giving Victor a cold shower.
The pair have enjoyed some entertaining banter so far including Emma's comments on her IQ: "I'm not daft me, I'm not daft" and "My heads baffled, it's too much. My head feels like it's frying an egg all this thinking -- I don't even think -- do you hate thinking?".
Last week's mock eviction pulled in around 200,000 fewer votes than the first eviction of last year's series.
Shell is the favourite to win at 3/1, followed by Daniel at 4/1. Jason, a former frontrunner, has had his chances scuppered, according to Ladbrokes, following his canoodling with Vanessa. Ladbrokes said yesterday that "being in a couple is the kiss of death on 'Big Brother'".
