Big Brother 4 loses top entertainment web spot to BBC

LONDON – 'Big Brother' failed to take the top spot in entertainment sites visited by surfers, losing the top spot to the BBC in another sign that 'Big Brother 4' was seen as boring by the public.

The 'Big Brother' site came fourth in the top 10 most-visited sites for June -- it secured 2.61% compared with the BBC homepage score of 10.35%, according to the latest figures from intelligence service Hitwise.

The BBC scored strongly throughout the entertainment top 10, with its BBCi Weather Centre page coming third with 3.22% and its CBBC and Cbeebies sites both featuring.

There has been much speculation in the media that 'Big Brother' is failing to ignite the public's imagination this year as it has in others. Despite this, Channel 4 hailed the fourth series a success even though audience figures had dipped since last year.

This year's winner for the £70,000 'Big Brother' prize was Cameron, a fish trader from the Orkney Islands. He saw off the competition when 4.3m votes were cast in the final, bringing the total number of votes to nearly 12m.

'Big Brother 4' has drawn as much as a 43% share of the lucrative 16- to 34-year-old audience and a 44% share of ABC1 adults for Channel 4. Its average audience is 4.4m, a 22% share, while the show in which Jon was voted back in drew 6.3m viewers, a 35% share.
