Bebo, which has recently forged links with mobile operators including Orange, T-Mobile and O2 Ireland, has charged Kane with developing compelling mobile experiences for users so that they can interact with friends and content on the move.
Kane joins Bebo from mobile social networking platform provider Intercasting Corporation, where he was general manager.
In February, Bebo expanded its mobile offering through a partnership with Kane's former employer, Intercasting.
The deal enabled Bebo members to produce and share content on their phones, via Anthem, a platform that links mobile users with social networking sites and entertainment companies.
Ziv Navoth, Bebo's senior vice-president of marketing and business development, said: "Sean has an impressive background in building businesses and in the delivery of mobile platforms.
"We feel confident that he will enable Bebo to deliver the best social mobile experience on the web to our users, who increasingly are logging on from their mobile phones to consume, create, discover and share great content," Navoth added.
Before joining Intercasting, Kane was senior vice-president of business development at Vivendi Universal Net, and prior to that, he was general manager of MP3.com in Japan. He also previously held the post of director of technology for the US city of San Diego.
Kane said: "Mobile is emerging as a core part of the Bebo experience. By driving availability and adding compelling and unique mobile experiences, we hope to make using Bebo Mobile as natural for our global user base as connecting on a personal computer."
