Pre-adutied visitor numbers for the co-located BBC Gardeners' World Live and the BBC Summer Good Food Show at the NEC between 10-14 June reveal 110,000 people visited the shows, a rise of more than 5,000 on 2008.

This year's show saw a mammoth 625 exhibitors, while more than 100 specialist growers were housed in the RHS Floral Marquee that was sponsored by car giant Renualt.

Organiser BBC Haymarket's managing director Laura Biggs said: "This year has been particularly challenging, and many of our long term exhibitors were unable to join us as the economic climate wouldn't allow us."

Biggs added: "We saw an increase of on door ticket sales. These we believe were driven by partly by the excellent weather and the offers that we put in local press to give a discount on the door."
